See what it'll be about.
Slitherine Studios released this past week their first ever public images from Commander - Europe at War (preview), the operational-level wargame announced just a few months ago. These first two pics show the campaign map and an interface menu that's still in beta development stages.
"The campaign map is now complete and a small section can be seen in the screenshot below. The interface and units are still in production and the 2nd screen shows how they will look combined with the map. This new turn-based World War II strategy game is being developed by Slitherine Studios, Double Think Studios, and Firepower Entertainment; it will allow players to control the axis or allied forces from the highest command levels. The map of Europe is played in a classic hex-based layout during the course of the game's six scenarios. Other features include the ability to recruit historical commanders, the research and development of some 50 inventions, full multiplayer support, and detailed artwork courtesy of Osprey Publishing.
When creating the look and feel for the map it was important that the different terrain types were easily distinguishable and were not so 'busy' that their textures distracted you from the units. We also spent a lot of time making sure the terrain edges followed the hex boundaries close enough to make it clear whether a hex was open, forest or mountain, yet with enough variation to stop it looking unnatural. This is most important for players who choose to play without the hex grid. We're very pleased with the results
so far."
